An Exciting New Project at our Black Range Museum!

Home for a Coach

The Hillsboro Historical Society has completed construction of a Coach House behind our Black Range Museum in Hillsboro, New Mexico. Many steps remain in the acquisition process for the Mountain Pride Stagecoach, but our building designed to house the Coach is completed!

Drought-tolerant native landscaping, pavers and shaded seating for programs is also planned for the outdoor space near the new building. Paver surfaces over much of the area will allow access for all visitors and provide a place to gather and to learn. Interpretive areas will bring New Mexico history outside! We are excited for the future of this Black Range Museum backyard area.

About Us

The Hillsboro Historical Society owns and manages the Black Range Museum and the old Sierra County Courthouse and Jail Site in Hillsboro, New Mexico.

Our focus is on the history of the Black Range, Hillsboro, Lake Valley and Kingston.  Our mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the history of these areas to promote undestanding of our local heritage.

The HHS publishes an exceptional quarterly history Journal: Guajolotes, Zopilotes y Paisanos.  Journals dating back through 2018 can now be found on the Journal Page of this website.

We are proud to be an active and growing New Mexico history museum!

The HHS is an all-volunteer run 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2008.  Membership, donors and our store at the Black Range Museum support our work.

We are a 100% volunteer-run organization and we always need new volunteers!   You may choose working in the Museum or helping on one of various committees. There is something for any time you have and your skills. We also consider interested people each year who can give time to our active Board of Directors.
