Volunteer - Give a Gift of Time
If you have considered volunteering but are not sure it is the best choice for your time, consider the values. Not only does it help the organization you choose, but volunteering is good for you. Key benefits include improvement in mental health and self-esteem, giving a better outlook on life. Volunteering is also a great way to build friendships and diminish loneliness.
People who volunteer are in general healthier!
We have recently reviewed the volunteer opportunities at Hillsboro Historical Society. Our most obvious need is staffing the Gift-shop and Museum on weekends, but there are a number of other opportunities for helping the HHS as well. We would like to present more programs; this takes someone to make connections and organize those opportunities. We also have committees to join. These include working on enhancement of our sites, thinking about new interpretive materials and displays, organizing cleanup of roadsides and weeds, accomplishing and transcribing oral history interviews, and developing special events. Additionally, each year we seek new board members to serve with our fun and active group of Directors .
Most non-profit organizations have the challenge of finding new volunteers to add to their team. Hillsboro Historical Society is no exception. We are a small, local organization, built in a low-population area. Our needs are not huge, but we are an all-volunteer organization. And over time, as we meet our vision for modest organizational growth, and for enhancement of our sites, adding new volunteers is critical.
We hope you will embrace the benefits of volunteering, and choose to find something to suit your interests at the Hillsboro Historical Society. Please contact us soon by emailing hillsboronmhistory@gmail.com You can download the volunteer form here, or fill one out when we meet with you. When we receive your email, we can set a time to meet and find something that fits your skills and available time!
