The Hillsboro Historical Society owns the Black Range Museum and the old Sierra County Courthouse and Jail Site.

We have been able to make remarkable improvements, especially at the Black Range Museum site. In 2024 we completed construction of a Coach House behind the Museum in anticipation of bringing back the Mountain Pride Stagecoach to Sierra County.  Photos of this building can be found on the Home page of this website.

We bring excellent speakers and other programs for the community and visitors. We also offer:

*An exceptional quarterly Journal — Guajolotes, Zopilotes y Paisanos, distributed to members and as of 2025 the publications are posted on this website’s Journal page.

*The new Hillsboro Walking Tour which is available for download on this site.

*Detailed Cemetery information also included on this site.

Membership helps us “keep the lights on” by supporting our all-volunteer run organization. Maintenance of HHS sites plus other significant accomplishments are funded exclusively from individual donations, gift shop sales, and membership dues – as well as countless hours of volunteer labor.

Please help support our efforts through joining and donating to the HHS. We thank you!

Membership (individual or family) is just $25 a year.

Be a Part of the Stage Stop Project!

The State of New Mexico has approved the return of the Mountain Pride Stagecoach home to us!  It will be housed at the new Coach House at the Hillsboro Historical Society’s Black Range Museum.  We are planning this Stagecoach move for mid-October.To be ready, we have been raising funds to assure that our Black Range Museum site will not only have the Mountain Pride, but will have museum grounds that allow full visitor access to the Coach House, and that provide a beautiful outdoor space for educational displays, and for community programs and gatherings.   We are calling this the Stage Stop Project.

The design and details are highlighted on the home page.  We have raised over one third of what is needed for the total site development cost of $160,000. Additionally, a significant amount of professional time toward this project has been donated by our contractor to reduce costs and by volunteers.

We believe in investing in Sierra County!  Finally, we will fully be completing our Black Range Museum site and connecting our museum and stagecoach buildings. This project will help anchor the Black Range Museum as a permanent asset to our communities and to the County for the future.

If you agree, we hope that you will consider a donation to this exciting project!  Find a donation form by clicking below or you can also give onliine at our Give Lively page.  We thank you for your gift of any size.
